Shoot day

 On Friday we had the shoot day! To be organised we followed the plan I have written weeks ahead. 

After meeting with the band and the singer, we all had breakfast and then we put the costumes and the props next to the studio, on a table. While the band and the singer were changing in the changing rooms, my team and I were preparing the set, camera and the lighting. However, when everything was prepared we realised that the basis did not have a bass guitar which was a real problem, but we managed to find one quickly so that we could start shooting as fast as possible. 

Once everything was solved and prepared we started by shooting the wide shot of the first set (the shack). We were though through the process how to direct, use the iPad and position the band. With the first shots that we took (wide shot, mid shot, close up of the singer) I was in charge with telling the actors how to act in front of the camera and to make them relax. We had a problem with the drummer throughout the filming because he was quite stressed and not loose enough, but I managed to make him relax and smile a bit in the end. Alex shot these first shots which were quite static, but really beautiful as the warm/cold lighting contrast of the set created a really nice effect. 

After the first few shot of this set we changed the roles: I was in charge with filming whereas Alex or Lily was with the iPad, Pandora with directing. While I was filming I had to do a closeup on each of the bassists hands and on her face. Because she was moving a lot, I had to follow her movement by moving the camera which was a new thing for me, but I really enjoyed it and I think the result was quite good. After that Lily and Pandora filmed the closeups on the guitarists and the drummer while Alex and I were directing and using the iPad in the beginning of each shot.

After filming all the shots for the first set we first asked the singer to change in her second outfit while the band could go for a longer break as there were not needed for the second set. Then we took all the wood walls for the shack out 

 

Costume fit

Today we did a costume fit (I meet with the group and the whole band + singer). To meet up we texted eachother on the groupchat all day and finally mannaged to find a place where we can all meet taking in consideration that the studio was not available (we meet in the pavilion). 

After we all got together, everyone put their clothes on the floor so that we can clearly see what the options are. The clothes that they brought were all really good and matched the treatments that we sent us and the vibe that we are looking for.

These are some photos of the jewelleries that they are going to wear. The photos of the two boys are the outfits that the guitarist and the drummer are going to wear. The other photos are the three outfits that we all, as a group, decided for the singer.

List of shots

 Today I did a list of shots in more detail then the one for the test shot so that we are sure that we will be prepared on the 19’th of November (the shooting day!!).

Roles on set

My team and I talked about what roles we will each have on set and for the creation of this film.

The first decision was that I will be the editor of the film because I did most of the editing last year and I also edited most of the test shoot (also it’s what I enjoy the most about film making) so it makes sense.

The other roles after filming on the shoot day are who is in charge of creating the digi packs and the social media account.

So after discussing further, we decided that Alex and Lily will create de social media as they are both photography students and Pandora will create the digi pack as she is an art student.

On the set we will all help with the filming. For directing, however, we will have Alex direct people and be responsible with placing people in the set.

Costumes treatments

These are the treatments of the band’s costumes for the shack scene that we created as a group. We choose to have them wear a casual simple style, quite similar to each other, but different then the singer so that the  singer will be distinctive. 

For the other set where the members of the band will be shot (the aura set), they will all wear quite simple tops because the lighting which won’t make the outfit visible to the audience. 

As for Kate’s outfits (the singer), Alex talked to her and found that she has a lot of suitable clothes to the style that we are looking for which is hippie.

Planning

 Today I did a plan for the music video with the last tasks that we have to do to make sure that our video will be as good as possible. The most important task right now is the costume fit because costumes are so important for the music video and we have to make sure that they all have suitable outfits and that we don’t miss anything, We will do this costume fit on Monday next week, and if we realise that we miss some clothes we will have to order that as soon as possible. After the costume fit we will do a rehearsal to make sure that Kate, the singer, knows all the lyrics and that the band knows how to play the song on the instruments.

I also wanted to test the lighting, however, the studio is booked everyday which means we will have to test the lighting on the shooting day.

Another task that has to be done until tomorrow (because it’s the least time consuming one) is looking at the test shoot and creating a list of all the types of shots that we need to include.

I also set myself time until 10.11.2021 to have ordered all the props that I am supposed to bring.

(Filming with a band makes it quite hard to bring everyone together, but thankfully I have found a time on Monday when we can all meet up):
